Amtrak Diesels and "The Silver Lady"

While leading the California Zephyr eastward, two Amtrak E-units wearing the "point-less arrow" scheme exit the snowshed at Norden near the summit of California's Donnor Pass in February 1974. It's worth noting that the relationship between Amtrak's Es and the Donner crossing of the Sierras was short lived. The six-axle cab units failed to win engineers' favor. Amtrak 326 had been originally built for the Union Pacific as E8A 929A. (Drew Jacksich photo)
