Burlington Northern 7123
BN 2830 photo here
At 800+ units, EMD's SD40-2 was clearly the most profilic locomotive on the Burlington Northern; it out-paced General Electric's competing C30-7 model by nearly 600 units. BN 7123 is fairly representative of the railroad's large fleet of 40-2s; the most notable exceptions being its "white face" and horizontal white separation stripe along the carbody. Built in 1978, the 645-powered EMD spent 25 years on the BN/BNSF prior to becoming in 2003 a part of the CEFX lease fleet. (Ron Thur photo at Whitefish, MT on 10 October 1992.
