Burlington Northern #9950 @ Chicago, IL on 27 June 1972

For the "roster shooter," Burlington Northern E8A #9950 just might be the most sought-after. In a period of less than 20 months, the 2250-hp locomotive wore three different BN paint schemes. The first scheme featured a solid silver carbody with alternating green-white diagonal nose stripes. The next scheme consisted of the same silver body with a plain nose (no BN emblem). The last variation appeared in mid-1972 and featured five red-nose stripes, rather than the four stripes typically applied to CB&Q locos. Pictured here is the #9950 at Canal Street waiting for the next assignment. (Paul Hunnell photo)
