Burlington Northern #9990 @ Lisle, IL on 28 May 1971
BN 9990 photo here
Burlington Northern experimented, in the early days, with four (perhaps even five) potential locomotive color schemes. One of those briefly employed was a silver-sided carbody shell and green cab with white diagonal nose stripes. BN E9A #9990 pictured here was one of two similarly painted cab units assigned to the commuter pool. The other six-axle EMD cab unit was E7A #9920, which had been originally CB&Q #9935B. The above photo suggests the eight-month old silver and green option was not very durable. The loco was rebuilt in 1975 as BN/WSMTD E9Au #9929. (R. Craig photo)
