WABASH H24-66In-bound from Kansas City, a Wabash RR freight nears the end of its journey as it approaches the Oakwood Yard in Melvindale, MI on a mid-March morning in 1965; a H24-66 Trainmaster and GP35 are on the point of the mostly autoparts train. The two sets of upper carbody filters on the trainmaster are a sign that the Beloit-built unit has been repowered by ALCo (with a 2400 hp, 12-cylinder 251B engine). Photo by: R. Craig |

AKRON CANTON & YOUNGSTOWN H16-44It can be safely said that the Akron Canton & Youngstown Railroad was partial to Beloit-built locomotives. Indeed, at one time their roster was exclusively FM products: five H20-44s, one H15-44, and eight of the 1600 hp four-axle units. The setting for this August, 1965 photograph is the National Lime quarry in Carey, OH. Photo by: R. Craig |

CANADIAN NATIONAL CPA16-5Almost guaranteed to bring out the uhhhhs and ahhhhs at any slide show is this Denny Custer photograph taken in Sarnia, ONT of Canadian National 6702, a rare CPA16-5. One of six such locomotives on the CN roster, the five-axle cab unit was manufactured by the Canadian Locomotive Company early in 1955, under license to Fairbanks Morse. |

CANADIAN PACIFIC H24-66H24-66 #8911, along with 19 sister units, entered revenue service on the Canadian Pacific in 1956. Rated at 400 hp per axle, the Fairbanks Morse-designed Trainmaster was built by Canadian Locomotive Company (under license to FM) at the Kingston Plant. They were the largest diesel units on the CP roster at the time, at least in terms of horsepower. With the exception of #8900-8904 (which were steam-generator equipped, the 2400-horsepower locomotives were used in all types of freight service. The accompanying image shows #8911 leading a freight on the Moose Jaw - Portal Subdivision in August 1965, approximately three years prior to retirement. Photo by: Harold Murray |
