Kansas City Southern's "Ghost" Locomotives
KCS GP7 4151 photo here
KCS was unique when contrasted to the other Class 1 railroads during the early years of the diesel era. The KCS roster was heavy with streamlined cab units and boosters from builders EMD and Fairbanks Morse, and only a small number of GP7s (13), GP9s (3), and H15-44s (4). KCS 4151, which was built in November 1951 as the 151, is shown at Sulphur Springs, TX on 29 January 1984. The geep's retirement occurred six years later. (Bob Courtney photo)
