General Information: The "E" Model designation (i.e. GP20E) reflected an ownership by Southern Pacific Equipment Company, with a lease to SP Transportation Co. These units were typically "remanufacturerd" by SP Shop forces as part of a Capital Rebuild Program.
** Note A **
Cotton Belt had two FT A units rebuilt on F7 frames. SSW 920ABCD a four unit FT set was wrecked at Renault, Illinois on November 16, 1948. These four units were returned to EMD for rebuilding. The 920D was the worst wreck and was rebuilt on a new frame in the first quarter of 1949. The 920D:2 was renumbered to SSW 923 in April 1949. --- (Edwin Cooper message of 7/18/2015)

Cotton Belt FTA 921 (2nd) is the EMD rebuild/repair of 921 (1st). The repair was done on an F7 frame sometime in 1950. This repaired unit has escaped notice for some 63 years. It looked like a stretched FT. There are photos of the November 29, 1949 wreck that destroyed the first unit here: http://www.reocities.com/TheTropics/8199/head_on.html And an R. S. Plummer photo of the rebuilt unit is in Steve Goen's Cotton Belt Color Pictorial pages 40-41. I'm callling the rebuilt unit an F7AM because of the F7 frame. It is thought that the B unit in the accident photo was also sent to LaGrange. --- (Edwin Cooper message of 8/31/2013)
