VIA #6790 Disposition: Napa Valley Wine Train #6790

When it came time in 1989 for VIA to rid itself of the FPA4s, newly formed Napa Valley Wine Train was first to express an interest; it purchased four of the aging MLW passenger locomotives. The purchase included ex-VIA 6760, 6775, 6787 and 6790; NVWT re-numbered the foursome 70 thru 73. According to a NVWT source, "Each of the engines has ran five million miles more than the expected lifespan." Additionally MLW #73 was re-engined with a natural gas-burning EMD 12-645E prime mover.
